This handcrafted item is made from locally dug wild clay, minimally processed by hand to retain a natural range of particle sizes, lending a unique character and texture to each piece. After shaping, a kaolin slip (liquid clay) is applied, breaking and pooling across the textured surface for a dynamic effect. Following an initial firing, the cup is coated in a clear glaze and fired to cone 7-8 (~2275°F) in a reduction kiln. As the kiln cools slowly, the clay, slip, and glaze subtly re-oxidize, creating organic spotting and enhancing each cup's distinct, one-of-a-kind look. Durable and functional, this piece is food, dishwasher, and microwave safe.
